Will I ever get this right?
A couple of days a week at B&L putting together bikes has taught me a lot. Like bike mechanices live on pizza. Sean’s got the only iPod. And there’s always a new wrinkle which Tim fixes with a twist of practiced hands too quickly for me to see.
On of my goals is to actually be able to change my own chain. I’ve tried several times, but you know they aren’t all the same. And no two instructors tell me the same thing either.
When sizing the chain do you use big to big or small to small? Depends on who you are talking to. This video uses the big chain ring to the big cassette gear but is a bit more precise about the measure. Still it is possible to misunderstand even from a video which you can pause and study.
Look closely at the end where he tells you to break the chain. It looks like he is going to have two outside pieces to fit together. Someone noted it ina comment and he points out that the inside piece is on the chain ring but blends in as to be invisible.
Very short, clear video. This Bicycle Tutor site is very usefule for anyone trying to get a handle on home repair.
