How do drivers treat you here?

The question from a new resident in the valley betrayed negative experience. I had to tell him we had been verbally harrassed and had ocassionaly been targets for thrown objects and even for near brushes with a passing car. Yet, I also told him most driveres are overly courteous. What causes the harrassment is a continuing topic of conversation among cyclists. One suggestion is the costume. Tight lycra and bright jerseys attract comment. While the “uniform” is functional and comfortable, it may not be the best advertisement for bringing in new commuters. Take a look at the pair of cords on this blog. The cuffs roll up to reveal a reflective inner surface. Turn your pockets inside out and get additional reflectivity. For a shor t commute, looking more like civilian might be best.–Corrie
