New York loves biking but bike lanes, not so much.

I find the bike lane next to the sidewalk to the right of parked cars a bit disconcerting. I don’t think I’d ride in New York. If I did, I might think this arrangement would be safer than trying to avoid being doored or run down by famously impatient NYC drivers. Still intersections and left turns seem problematic with this arrangement.–Corrie

Bike Lane Controversy in NYC

A story recently posted on the New York City news blog, Gothamist, draws attention to the expansion of bike lanes in the city. In this particular case, business owners are not pleased and it seems the lane has had a lot of unintended consequences.

As shown in the picture (from ratherbebiking), the bike lane is separated from traffic by parked cars. This comes from the Gothamist post:
