USDOT Policy Supports Walking and Cycling

If you’ve been paying any attention, you already know that Ray LaHood made a fairly dramatic policy statement at the Bike Summit a couple of weeks agon suggesting that bike and pedestrian infrastructure would receive equal status in federal transportation policy along with other transportation infrastructure.

Of course that pleased the crunchy-granola types and engendered fear, angst and anger among those who believe LaHood wants to take our cars (read SUVs) away from us. Now here’s your chance to pick sides. The League of American Bicyclists have posted a page that makes it easy to Become a Facebook Fan of LaHood, write your state Governor, and find local bike advocacy groups all in one place.

Support the USDOT Statement on Bicycling and Walking

On March 15th, the Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, announced a new policy statement that calls for the end of treating bicycling and walking as second-class modes of transportation. Read the whole statement.
