Seattle Spins Up Cycling

We know Washington State leads the nation in bike-friendliness according to the League of American Bicyclists. Certainly much of that is on the west side, though Spokane is stepping up. With a new bike-friendly Mayor and a comprehensive bike plan, Seattle is vying for a higher ranking among bike-friendly communities.

This account of activity in Seattle is pretty informative even for us on the east side. I’m always amazed at the amount of resources and energy focused on bicycling and walking. I’m beginning to see, as I get involved, that we have some of the same thinking here.

The ultimate question, as Seattle Department of Transportation manager of policy and planning Barbara Gray put it, is “What would it take in your neighborhood (to) get you to walk, bike and take transit for more of your trips?”
