BSenate passes transportation bill with funding for local bicycle projects

The transportation bill goes to the House next. We thought Ray Lahood would mean legitimizing the bicycle as a mode of transportation. Yet, bicycle advocates are fighting hard to save small funding pools and defeat mandatory bike sidepaths. I wonder if the same guys who don’t a health-care mandate think telling cyclists where to ride is just fine.–Corrie

The Senate approved a two-year $109 billion Transportation bill today that, among other things, includes an “Additional Activities” fund that local governments can use for such local projects as bike lanes and trails.
